How Big is Your God?

I recently moved to Illinois and felt the urge to give church another go. I picked my church because it reminded me of the church my Ex wife and I went to when we first got married. It had the same feel. It was big, the music was excellent, and the atmosphere just seemed right. Little did I realize how different it is from any church I had been to the rest of my life. I went to a mid-sized group on Tuesday where the topic for the next few weeks is "God Heals Today." God healing people through the Holy Spirit isn't a new concept to me. I grew up hearing the Bible stories all my life. But to encounter a church in the modern US that passionately believes and claims to see this happen was a bit odd for me to see and accept at first.
That got me thinking. How big is my god? How big is your god? Why does God choose to heal? How does He choose to heal? Why do some people get healed and others don't? Does it matter? What's His motivation in healing? Is it just to bring validity to His own existence? Is it because He wants everyone to be healed? I don't know or have answers to any of these questions. All I know is that I have been putting God into the box of my understanding for as long as I can remember and now I find myself intrigued to see how work is done in me if I view him as "unleashed" instead of "coralled."
It's good to be back or at least trying to be back.
Stay Tuned.
Dan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I've had similar struggles in faith, and similar realizations of who God really is. It's really like waking up from a bad dream and realizing your Poppa had you in His arms the whole time.
I feel you 100% bro.
